Frank Bridge (February 26, 1879 – January 10, 1941) was an English composer.
Bridge was natural within Brighton and studied at a Royal College of Music in London from 1899 to 1903 under Charles Villiers Stanford and others. He played a viola in a total of string quartets, most notably a English String Quartet, and conducted, sometimes deputising for Henry Wood, before devoting himself to composition, getting a patronage of Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge. He privately tutored the total of pupils, virtually all famously Benjamin Britten, who late championed his teacher's music & paid court to him in the Variations in the Theme of Frank Bridge (1937), according to a theme from either the 2nd of Bridge's 3 Idylls for String quartette (1906). Bridge died inside Eastbourne.
Among Bridge's works come a orchestral A Sea (1911), Oration (1930) for violoncello & orchestra & a opera A Christmas Rose (premiered 1932), however he is maybe virtually all extremely regarded in todays world for his chamber music. His early works come within the late-Romantic idiom, but afterwards pieces like a third (1926) & quaternary (1937) string quartette come harmonically advanced & super distinctive, showing a influence of the Second Viennese School.
